It is recommended that any vertical fixed ladder over the height of 3m has a safety cage fitted for added security when the ladder is in use. Fall protection systems such as harnesses should also be considered. Fixed vertical ladders with cages do not prevent falls down the ladder however prevent falling backwards, for this reason other means of fall protection should be considered.
