Unfortunately it does require mounting, the ladder is fixed to the hatch door to assist with the pulling out and putting away of the deluyze. It is a particularly heavy product and requires this assistance.

"When attaching the Guide and pivot please ensure the following steps have been conducted."

"When preparing the loft ladder for instillation, carefully use a sharp knife to cut along the groves and remove both end caps on the base section of the loft ladder. Please keep the end caps as you will require these components for later use. Once this has been conducted, please insert you 12MM screws into component H (Retainers and stops) Slide the Retainer and stops onto the product."

"Once this has been completed, you can then insert your guide and pivot assembly, however, please ensure that the guide has been inserted into the product the correct way, this is shown on the installation instruction. Once this has been completed, you will be able to insert component M (Retainers and Stops) Loosely insert your other set of 12MM Screws and slide your retainers into the base section of the product."

"Once this has been completed, you will need to refer to the start process re-inserting your end caps that you have removed at the start of the instillation process.
You will need to then measure the distance between the floor of the room to the floor of the loft, 2.70M as an example. Place your paper template that is provided in the full fitting kit, on the back ladder section with the cutout lining up with the top hole, position the stop at the required height (2.70M Used as example)  you will then need to tighten both of the stop screws, please repeat this process with the stops on the other side of the ladder."

"Please note, when disengaging the product from the loft space you should be bringing this down in a coordinated manner and not letting the product drop."

The outer case of the hatch door is simply an MDF timber, so it can be painted, not a problem.

I would recommend the hatch door is appropriately prepped & primed, as the hatch door surface has quite a smooth finish

I’ve taken a screen shot of the hatch door closed from our installation video, see below.

Note that the installer in the video has fitted their own architrave kit to surround the ladder casing.

We do not supply these as standard because many people want to fit their own style of timber rail, which may match their nearby door frames or skirting boards etc in the home.

The Powder coating supplier has advised the epoxy coating will be fine in environments between circa minus 40 Celsius to plus 40 Celsius, as a general rule of thumb. The paint could become brittle if stored in very cold environments, so should ideally only be used, not stored, in these temperatures. You should also take care not to deliver heavy blows or knocks to the framework, as the paint may chip when brittle.
